Idea Exchange
|
As an introduction to this page, let me tell you all that I DID NOT CREATE any of the following
projects. They are solely the ideas and creations of those I talk about in the descriptions. I
also will NOT have directions on how to create any of these on this site, but it is my hope that
once you've looked at the photos, you may be given an idea for your own creations.

Eiffel Tower & Blue Bird
Created by Yonatan S., an Israeli Internet friend, August 2008.
Yonatan is a Hebrew name that translates to Jonathan in English. Yon is a 16-year-old Israeli
Internet friend I recently met through email. He is most proud of an Eiffel Tower that he created.
It took him 6 days (40 hours) to create the Eiffel Tower.
This blue bird is another of his MANY ABSOLUTELY AMAZING projects he's created over the years.
In addition to these two, he also created a unicorn in "only" 15 hours. I think his bird took him
even longer than either of these other ventures.
His work is SO OUTSTANDING, I told him I'd give him his own page on my site. The page contains
some very high resolution photos that will make seeing how he created the projects a lot easier
to see. He also made reference to another website that I'll link to from that page. You'll find
even more ideas on this website.
Thank you, Yonatan, for sharing your EXCELLENT works!

American Flag
Created by Reannon Z., an Internet friend, August 2008.
This American Flag boondoggle was created by a boondoggling friend I met via email. She told me she was
going to attempt to make a flag, but that since she had no instructions, she wasn't sure how to make or finish
it, but as you can see from the photos she shared, she did it! Creating new projects on your own is just
one way to have some really great fun, while doing boondoggle. It's one reason that I put photos of projects
I've done in the past WITHOUT instructions. It's fun to look at a picture and see if you can figure out how
it was done. This is how I learned to do some of the more complex stitches, like Fluted Columns.
American Flag, 2nd Version
Created by Amanda H., one of my 7G campers, July 2009.
Amanda is the perfect example of someone who can look at a picture and recreate a project based on the idea
she saw presented earlier. You can see how she further improved on Reannon's idea by creating her flag to
contain all 13 stripes. While Reannon's was created using three Square stitches for the stripes and a SuperBrick
for the blue, Amanda upped the ante and created hers using three Wall stitches that have been cleverly woven
together.
Both girls have given me some great ideas that I'd love to pursue on my own. I chatted with Amanda about the
possibility of creating the flag using one large Wall stitch, versus three. I gave her some hints on how she
might accomplish it. We'll see if she beats me to the completion of the 3rd version. Who knows, perhaps Reannon
or someone new will beat us all to something even better! If you're an Internet friend living outside the United
States, have you done a boondoggle of your own flag? Perhaps we can get a mini-gallery of flags going! ;-)

Super Rocketship
Created by Amber, one of my nieces, August 2004.
As I stated elsewhere on the site, I oftentimes boondoggle with family and friends. Many times,
Amber and her sister would come over to the house and we would boondoggle together. Needless to
say, they have both gone WAY BEYOND the simple stuff and wanted to try some NEW creations of their
own. Amber saw two tough ideas that I had done (original rocket and the combo) and asked me if
I thought you could combine the two. After telling her I thought that would be really tough, she
immediately told me, "Well, I'm going to do THAT then." It took her a couple of solid days (4-5
hours a day) to complete her masterpiece.
Amber had just completed her 7th grade year when she made this project. She enjoys BOONDOGGLE,
bowling & listening to PUNK ROCK MUSIC, and a little RAP.
